Wildlife viewing:

With Glacier National Park located 50 miles east of Whitefish, the Bob Marshall Wilderness southeast, the Flathead National Forest to the north and southeast, the Flathead valley and adjacent mountains offer plenty of opportunities to view wildlife of all sorts, from the majestic grizzly bear to bald eagles and osprey, you can find wildlife in abundance. Hiking

Hiking in the area, on Big Mountain, in Glacier Park, or you can hike the Jewel Basin in the Flathead National Forest on the east side of the Flathead Valley. Our staff can help you find these opportunities.

Skiing/Snowboarding

Whitefish lies at the foot of The Big Mountain Ski and Summer Resort, and is open year round for winter skiing/snowboarding and summer hiking.

 

 

 

 

South of Whitefish, on the west shore of Flathead Lake 14 miles up from Lakeside, Blacktail Mountain Ski Resort offers panoramic views of the Lake and uncrowded skiing.

 

 

 

Nordic Skiing

You can enjoy Nordic skiing in Whitefish and in Glacier Park. During the winter, the Whitefish Golf Course has a Nordic center that offers rental equipment, lessons, and groomed trails. They can also help you find other Nordic skiing opportunities in Glacier Park. The friendly staff at the Downtowner Inn can tell you how to take advantage of these opportunities.
